My New StudioBox

Meet my newest piece of furniture! From The Original Scrapbox Company, this lovely, spacious and fabulous cupboard is made specifically for the crafter in the family – in this case, ME! Although this unique system can be tailored to suit specific hobbies mine is tailored to my love of many things including paper, sewing and bookbinding. As you can see there are still blank spaces within my cupboard which I was quite surprised by as I thought I had more ‘bits’ but I guess I’m not as squirrely as I previously thought. All this was hiding inside my writing desk so now I have a space for arts and crafts and a space for writing.

My summer project this year is to re-paint my writing desk; it’s going to be quite a task but I’ve decided to use spray paint for the job rather than hand painting everything. I recently re-painted my daughter’s small roll top writing desk  and I gotta say we were all very happy with the result. She decided on white exterior and silver interior, a step away from the usual pink.  I was able to have it repainted in a day and back in her room for her to fill again with all her Shopkins paraphernalia!

Painted Writing desk

Here is what I’m going for although mine would have a light blue interior, possibly wallpapered backing in cabinet. This picture comes from the HGTV magazine and it’s where I got the idea originally after seeing an article that was a furniture ‘rags to riches’ story. I have this exact desk and after ensuring my piece of furniture was not an antique I committed to commitment and even my husband is on board for this – something I wouldn’t have thought he would have an interest in but he’s actually quite enthusiastic about it! I’ve seen many versions of this desk painted a variety of ways and as I am not of the french country cottage variety I felt being simple and clean would work better within my living room. The pop of color is defiantly a fresh look and a good way to showcase a little thought outside the box! The only thing stopping me from doing this is if the cabinet that sits on top of the desk has been glued into place as well as screwed in…only time will tell!

We have so many dark IKEA bookcases I am also chomping at the bit to repaint those as well but hubby has flat refused to let me try. Why? He thinks it’s not worth spending money on something so cheap in the first place. Although I see his point I also want to make our furniture look fresher and less tired! Just a quick coat of paint, nothing crazy, but enough to brighten up our living room and change the appearance of something we have been looking at for nearly a decade. I am hoping the new writing desk will help sway him into letting me do it but for now I will stick to the main project and once it’s done I will update you on the result.
